Is Gili Meno Worth Visiting? Honest 2026 Guide
Gili Meno is often described as the “quiet island” of the Gili Islands, and that is completely true. Whether that’s a good thing or not completely depends on what kind of trip you’re looking for. Personally, I loved it and Gili Meno so far has been my favourite beach-based trip I have done to date.
However, if you’re expecting beach clubs, nightlife, and lots going on, you might end up bored. The absence of those things is what appealed to me. If you’re looking for a peaceful island escape with clear water, slow days, and a more untouched feel, Gili Meno can be one of the best places you visit in Indonesia.
In this guide, I’m breaking down the honest pros and cons of Gili Meno, who it’s actually for, and how it compares to Gili Air and Gili Trawangan — so you can decide if it’s worth it for your trip.
At a glance
Best for: Couples, quiet beach lovers, and slower travel
Main downside: It can feel too quiet for some people
My honest take: Gili Meno has been my favourite beach trip so far
Closest comparison: Quieter than Gili Air and the complete opposite of Gili Trawangan
Quick answer
- Yes, Gili Meno is worth visiting if you want peace, clear water and a slower pace
- No, it may not be for you if you want nightlife, variety and lots of social energy
- Best stay length: usually a couple of nights
- Best alternative: Gili Air if you want a middle ground
What Gili Meno is actually like
Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest of the three Gili Islands, sitting between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air. There are no cars, no motorbikes, and very little noise. It’s perfect for cycling around and enjoying the island’s slow, almost sleepy feel, especially compared to Bali.
You won’t find big beach clubs, busy streets, or packed restaurants here. Instead, it’s more about empty beaches. Genuinely, you can have the beach to yourself. If there happens to be someone else on the beach, just walk 100 metres and you can pretty much guarantee a quiet spot to yourself, especially on the south side.
I spent a few hours in the morning on this side of the island and didn’t see another person.
The other benefits, although these kind of apply to the other islands too, are clear turquoise water and snorkelling straight off the shore. The quiet evenings with a few restaurants and bars again come without crowds of people, which will appeal to some travellers but put others off.
Pros and cons of visiting Gili Meno
Peace and quiet
This is easily the biggest reason people choose Gili Meno. It’s genuinely quiet — not just “less busy,” but properly calm. You can walk along large stretches of beach and barely see anyone, especially outside peak hours.
You can also explore the middle of the island and get more of a feel for local life.
The water here is some of the clearest in the Gilis and snorkelling is excellent, with turtles commonly spotted just off the shore. You don’t always need a tour, although it will make your snorkelling experience a lot easier. You can literally walk in and see marine life.
Compared to Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno feels far less built up. There are fewer large resorts, fewer crowds, and more open space, which gives it a more “island” feel rather than a tourist hub.
If your goal is to relax, slow down, and disconnect a bit, this is where Gili Meno stands out. It’s one of those places where doing nothing actually feels like the point of the trip.
It can feel too quiet
This is the biggest downside for some people, and it’s a dealbreaker if you want a bit of nightlife. There is also not a huge variety of restaurants. There is certainly enough for a few nights’ stay and there was plenty of choice for me, but it is still limited compared with the other islands.
Activities are also more limited unless you book tours or plan things in advance. It’s important to remember that you can easily get to the other islands during the day if you need more things to do and see.
Because it’s quieter and less developed, Gili Meno can feel slightly cut off. If you’re travelling solo or staying for more than several days, this may be an issue.
After a couple of days, you will feel like you’ve seen most of what the island has to offer.
Logistics are less convenient
Things like ATMs, transport, and booking activities are more limited compared to Bali or even the other Gili Islands. There is only one ATM on the island and I wouldn’t rely on it.
It’s not difficult, but it does require a bit more planning. Although most hotels can help with this. I stayed at the fantastic Gili Meno Escape and they arranged some of my activities.

Who Gili Meno is best for
Gili Meno is easily the best Gili Island for couples. It’s quiet, romantic, and feels more private than the others. It is perfect for a relaxed getaway or even a honeymoon-style trip.
It also works really well if you want a break from busy travel days. Gili Meno is a great place to slow things down and it fits nicely as part of a longer Bali or Indonesia itinerary.
For most people, Gili Meno is best in small doses. A couple of nights is usually enough to enjoy the island without feeling bored.
Who it’s not ideal for
- Solo travellers looking to meet people
- Anyone wanting nightlife or a social atmosphere
- Travellers who like lots of activities and variety
Gili Meno vs Gili Air vs Gili Trawangan
Gili Meno vs Gili Air
Gili Air is a middle ground.
- More restaurants and cafés
- A bit of nightlife, but still relaxed
- Easier to meet people
If Gili Meno feels too quiet, Gili Air is usually the better choice.
Gili Meno vs Gili Trawangan
Gili Trawangan is the complete opposite.
- Busy
- Party-focused
- Lots of bars, beach clubs, and activities
If you want energy and nightlife, Gili T is the better option. If you want peace and quiet, Gili Meno wins easily.
So, is Gili Meno worth visiting?
Gili Meno is absolutely worth visiting if you’re looking for peace and quiet and beautiful beaches. But if you want variety, nightlife, or a social atmosphere, you’ll probably enjoy Gili Air or Gili Trawangan more.
For me, Gili Meno was paradise. I’m no longer interested in staying up late and partying, and the less people the better. When taking the ferry from Bali to the Gili Islands, you can easily guess who is getting off at which islands and I couldn’t have been happier to have spent most of my time on Gili Meno.
Go there for quiet, water, beaches and slowing down — not for nightlife, variety or a packed itinerary.
